I am the founder and owner of Native Ecosystems Northwest. I have extensive experience in native ecosystem management and ecological forestry in the Pacific Northwest. Before founding Native Ecosystems Northwest I managed numerous projects, such as the Sandy River Delta restoration, for Ash Creek Forest Management, and the Fanno Creek Park site as the City of Tigard’s City Forester. I was instrumental in establishing Tigard’s Restoration and Enhancement Program. I also served as a Regional Urban Forester in Maryland’s Southern Region.
I have a varied and diverse background in natural resource-related fields with credentials including
- an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist.
- a licensed pesticide applicator with the State of Oregon’s Department of Agriculture, with Turf & Ornamental and Forestry endorsements.
- a Certified Ecosystem Restoration Practitioner (CERP) with the Society of Ecological Restoration.
- a Technical Service Provider (TSP) through the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS); my focus is to assist landowners on ecological forest management for the benefit of overall forest health and longevity (i.e. old-growth).
- educated in and has certificates in Wildland Fire Behavior and Fire Operations in the Wildland Urban Interface.
I received mt Forest Resource Management degree from West Virginia University.
I have volunteered with organizations such as AmeriCorps (enhancing riparian area function), Oregon Community Trees, the Sandy River Watershed Council and Friends of Trees. I received the Tualatin Riverkeepers Green Heron Award, and was the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the ISA Arborist of the Year (2003).
I take a practical and adaptable approach to all projects and work hard to optimize my clients’ investments in their projects.
“Let’s take our hearts for a walk in the woods and listen to the magic whispers of old trees.”
